Some pieces of memory in Britain

It has been three years since I came back from Britain. I still miss the wonderful time there. Such kinds of activity really enlarge teachers' view on language mastering and enhance teachers' ability of teaching. What's more, teachers improved their English and their teaching methods as well. The most important point is that we can experience the life in an English speaking country. I do think that I am lucky enough to be sent to England for three months study. It changed my viewpoint towards teaching and life.

The trip took nearly thirteen hours' flight from HK to London. I felt extremely tired when I got off the bus and waited for somebody to pick me up. Finally a middle aged woman who supposed to be my hostess drove me to her home. I knew that I would spend three months with her and her family. I wasn't sure if I would get on well with the two strangers. The first meal they offered to me was salad and uncooked meat. Oh, my god! All the food was cold and they drank water just right from the tap. More surprises came to me. They drink tea with milk; they eat with spoons and knives; they pray before meals; they treat their cats as family members…I began to follow their footsteps. I talked to my hostess while she was cooking. Then she became my friend. I talked to my host while he was watching TV. We were friends before long. I learned some English games, English history, English people and customs from him. Now I could tell how a gentleman behave. I told them lots of things happened in China nowadays. They seemed very interested about the development of our country. I am afraid that their impression of China still stayed in the past, Chairman Mao's age maybe. I think my duty is to get them a new feeling about China. They even promised that they would love to come to China for traveling one day. We enjoyed ourselves together. Pretty soon, pudding, which is one of the famous English desserts became my favorite. And they were amazed about Shunde's local soup and food. They invited some of my friends in my class to their home for dinner. We held two so called Chinese parties. My host showed his talent in a Chinese game called "MaJiang".

There were many funny stories to tell during I stayed in Britain. I found that when the east meets the west, there are sure some differences but if you try to respect each other, every problem can be solved. So I think communication between Chinese and British is necessary. Only when you step into a new environment where you have to speak English otherwise nobody can understand you, you will have a good opportunity to practice. Going abroad for further study is not only a kind of learning more knowledge but also a kind of different experience in your life. I never forget the day when the speaker announced that Beijing had got the chance to hold the 29th Olympic Games. We got the news on the Internet.

All the Chinese teachers cheered together and those foreigners beside us were moved. Several good friends went to the pub to celebrate, some local people also joined us happily.

I was so proud of being a Chinese. I knew that we sometimes could share the wonderful time with those you don't know at all.

Thanks for the wise leader who has such a great idea to send teachers to England for further study. I am benefit a lot from that and so are my students.
