A GROUP of Chinese teachers have traveled from a city populated by eight
million people to Hastings to learn about teacher training.
Fifty teachers have started studying skills and methods used in England at
Embassy CES foreign language school after arriving from Shunde two weeks ago.
They will be staying with host families until October when they will return
home to put everying they have learn into practise.
It comes after the success of last year’s programme when 38 professionals
came to town, the first time the Chinese Government had funded their people to
travel to the UK.
Embassy CES principal Reg Veale is delighted with the scheme because he
thinks both parties benefit.
He said:”They will learn teacher training skills and experience our way
of life while we learn about their different cultural attitudes.
“They can already speak English but have a particular way of using the language
which is very different.”
Mr Veale, who said booking of foreign students are up 25 per cent on last
year, added:”It is quite a shock when they come and stay with host families.
“They are used to crowded apartment blocks in a city the size of London.
But they find the experience very interesting.”
A reception was held at the Royal Victorial Hotel to welcome the teachers
to Hastings.
